Warren Buffett’s concern is ‘loose nukes.’ “If you believe, as I do,” said the Sage of Omaha. “That this is the most important problem that Mankind faces.” Sam Nunn, formerly head of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, went on to point out that there may be a 99.5% probability of catastrophic use during the next 50-years. Hence Mr. Buffett’s support of Sam Nunn’s Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and his part sponsoring of their movie Last, Best Chance. “Even a big blockbuster has a limited effect on educating the public,” the Senator said, rather despairingly.
I say, why not use the Education system therefore to educate the public? This simple thing is of course all too much to expect from a bunged up education system. You see horrifying, real problems are just not on the syllabus. But such certainly is, most decidedly so, a key part of the hugely promising alternative called Democracy Education. With ease it can disseminate such grave and crucial information. [ABC Nightline - Apr 18, 2005]
Not withstanding, the problem remains -- GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT. Al Gore, for one, can only whole heartedly agree. He even tells us that the political structure itself is not capable of responding to these colossal planetary challenges. His example: but one senator only, out of the hundred, agreed with his manifestly important view on climate change/ global warming. [ABC, This Week - Jun 4, 2006]
