The plan was that just one school (out of New York total of 1,069) would become a just girls school. However, even this pitiful one, was one too many for Norman Siegel, director of the NY Civil Liberties Union. For him, single sex "classes" (never mind whole schools) "would violate" not only federal statutory law, but also no less than the "federal constitution." Sorry girls, only kids with rich parents can bypass this one, for they just go straight to a private school, anyway. [The Times - Aug 4, 1996] By the way, The U.S. Constitution does not include education as a Federal responsibility. Does this not mean that U.S. Department of Education is unconstitutional? Probably. Whatever, education runs on, course sublime, unsinkable, inviolate.
